Oakfield is a private an independent financial advisory business, established in 2019, and was started as a continuation of Thompson Financial Solutions (1999), to create continuity of the business and to give clients the assurance that the company is always in good hands.
With an active and growing client base in the Western Cape, the company needed to expand its operations and adopt a new trading vessel to meet regulatory and legislative requirements. It is also important from a succession point of view that the necessary leadership is created to ensure continuity of the company and brand.
Oakfield ultimately offers more than 20 years’ experience in the independent financial advisory and insurance industry, administration of pension and retirement funds, financial consulting, investment management and corporate insurance products, clients have access to wide range of services, expertise and investment skills.

About The Founder
Gerald Thompson was born on 30 January 1974 and grew up in the Northern Suburbs of
Cape Town. He matriculated from Paarl Gimnasium Hoërskool in 1992 and completed
his BCom at the University of Stellenbosch.
Gerald spent 2 years working for Old Mutual in South Africa, and then went abroad and worked in the UK, again for Old Mutual, for a further 2 years.
He returned to South Africa and then joined Liberty Life in 2002 as a financial consultant. He became an independent financial advisor in 2005 and started his own business. In 2009 Gerald qualified as a Certified Financial Planning Professional (CFP) through the University of the Free State.
Gerald has been married to his wife Vivian and they have two sons, David, and Adam. He enjoys the outdoors, especially when it entails endurance exercises or adventure.
Gerald has successfully completed 4 Ironman Triathlons and various other multistage trail runs and mountain bike events prior to having children. The family enjoys camping and being outdoors.
Gerald has recently taken up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with the intention of spending more time with his sons.Gerald maintains a lifestyle of learning and enjoys acquiring interesting and new skills to give texture and depth to his life.
Gerald’s favourite quote which he aspires to is “The price of discipline is always less than the pain of regret” by Nido R Qubein.

Sharné has 14
years of experience in the insurance industry and joined the practice in 2014
as a personal assistant.
She is happily married to Blake and she enjoys being creative in her spare time and taking her dogs for walks.
